What is the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W?

The MIMU “Who is doing What, Where, When and for Whom” database – or MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W (formerly known as MIMU HDP Nexus 3W) – supports efficient coordination of humanitarian, development and peace-related activities, and supports more informed planning and resource allocation. It maintains updated information on WHO (which organisations) are doing WHAT (which activities), WHERE (in which locations), WHEN (project duration) and, in some areas, for WHOM (targeted beneficiaries) to enable organisations and donors to improve the targeting of beneficiaries to ensure that humanitarian and development needs are met.

The MIMU Myanmar HDP Nexus 3W was established in 2008 after Cyclone Nargis and has since been expanded to reflect humanitarian, development and peace-related activities undertaken by agencies in all States and Regions of Myanmar. In 2022, it was aptly named MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W.

Agencies share information on their planned, ongoing and recently completed activities every six months using sector and sub-sector definitions created by the various technical/sector working groups active in Myanmar. The HDP Nexus 5W data is compiled by MIMU and made publicly available, showing planned, ongoing and recently completed projects in the form of maps, dashboards, reports and data products. Agencies participating in the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W can determine the level of detail shared on their HDP Nexus 5W records, including “restricted” levels of HDP Nexus 5W information whereby some information is not made publicly available in MIMU products.

How often is it conducted? Who contributes to the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W?

The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W is compiled every six months based on reports from contributing agencies (NGOs and CBOs, UN and Red Cross agencies, and implementing donors).

How do we include our project information in the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W?

MIMU collects HDP Nexus 5W data every six months using a simple data entry form in Excel format. To participate, please see the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W Data Entry Form Guideline or contact MIMU to join a MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W Support session to help you in understanding the requirements and process for completing the form. Complete your project details in the form and send it back to MIMU ([email protected]). Note that organisations can update their HDP Nexus 5W information at any time by sharing this form with MIMU – the updates will be reflected in the HDP Nexus 5W Dashboard and HDP Nexus 5W raw data files; however, it will not be shown in the MIMU detailed maps and tables unless updated by the time of our regular HDP Nexus 5W data collection every 6 months (February and August of each year).
